What is Mercy?

Mercy is the act of not administering justice when that justice is punitive. Because of our sinfulness we deserve death and eternal separation from God but God provided atonement for sin and through it shows us mercy.

Mercy is not simply the withholding of punishment, but it is the act of giving help or having compassion on someone who is afflicted. Lord Says "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy".

Our Salvation is an act of the mercy of God, completely unwarranted by our past actions. "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost"

Remember that mercy is more than the withholding of punishment, but it is the Lovingkindness of God. "Because Thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise Thee" (Psalm 63:3).
