What is the meaning of IHS & JHS letters on Holy Eucharist and INRI letters on Crucifix images?


I.N.R.I

Letters I.N.R.I is usually seen on top of crosses or Crucifix images in your home or churches.

INRI is the abbreviated form of latin inscription "Iēsus Nazarēnus, Rēx Iūdaeōrum" which means "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews".

IHS or JHS


IHS or JHS letters are found on the Holy Eucharist. Holy Eucharist represents body of christ. IHS or JHS is the symbolic representation ( monograms / Christogram ) of the name of Jesus Christ.
