Christ, Present in the Eucharist
That believers may recognize in the Eucharist the living presence of the Risen One who accompanies them in daily life.
Sadly, some Catholics think the Eucharist is only a symbol of Christ's presence. The Church teaches that the Risen Christ is truly present in the Eucharist. In the Eucharist, Communion, Christ unites himself to us so that we can live in him.

We pray with Pope Benedict this month that all believers may recognize Christ in the Eucharist. The theme of this year's International Eucharistic Congress being held this month in Dublin, Ireland, is "The Eucharist: Communion with Christ and with one another."

Fifty years ago the Second Vatican Council pronounced the Eucharist "the source and summit of the Christian life." The Eucharist is the "source" of our Christian life because in receiving the Body of Christ we become the Body of Christ. We can live a Christian life only if we live as one with Christ. The Eucharist is the "summit of the Christian life" because it begins that union with God which will reach its high fulfillment in heaven.

You can buy any number of popular books with titles like Eat Well and Live Long. But none of them can tell how to beat death. There is one food that can do that—the Bread of Life. Jesus declared, "I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever…. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him" (John 6: 51, 56).

St. Paul warns us about this: "Anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself" (1 Corinthians 11: 29). May we all draw close to Christ in the Eucharist.

Reflection:
How has recognizing the living presence of Christ in the Eucharist helped you in your daily life?
Reading:
1 Corinthians 10:16-17 The bread is a participation in the body of Christ.

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the most Precious Blood of Jesus, with all the Masses being said all over the world this day, for the Souls in Purgatory.....Read Me or Rue It

Purgatory, according to Catholic Church doctrine, is an intermediate state after physical death in which those destined for heaven undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven. Here is a book that tells us how to save ourselves and how to save others from untold suffering in purgatory. Read Me or Rue It ...read it now. Jesus, Mary, I Love You, Save Souls

“[A Third Time Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection] While Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside by themselves, and said to them on the way, “See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death; then they will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified; and on the third day he will be raised.”” -Matthew 20: 17-19
