Dolores Hart is an American Roman Catholic nun and former actress. She was the only child of actor Bert Hicks and Harriett Hicks, who separated and ultimately divorced, when she was three years old. She had a successful career in Hollywood. She made ten films in five years. She made her movie debut with Elvis Presley in Loving You.
Dolores Hart became famous for her film debut with Elvis Presley in the 1957 film “Loving You,” and soon starred in nine more films with big stars such as Montgomery Clift.She then shocked Hollywood in 1963 by deciding to enter a monastery.
She studied at Marymount College, and was later engaged to Los Angeles architect, Don Robinson, before she entered the convent. She admitted she loved him — "Of course, Don, I love you." But Robinson said, "Every love doesn't have to wind up at the altar." He never married, but visited her every year at Christmas and Easter until his death on November 29, 2011, at age 78. The 24-year-old actress became a Roman Catholic nun at the Benedictine Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut, ultimately becoming its Prioress. Fifty years later, she’s released her autobiography “The Ear of the Heart.”
Dolores was a bright and beautiful college student when she made her film debut with Elvis Presley in Paramount's 1957 Loving You. She acted in nine more movies, including Wild is the Wind, King Creole, and Where the Boys Are alongside other big stars such as Montgomery Clift, Anthony Quinn and Myrna Loy. She also gave a Tony-nominated performance in the Broadway play The Pleasure of His Company and appeared in television shows, including The Virginian and Playhouse 90. An important chapter in her life occurred while playing Saint Clare in the movie Francis of Assisi, which was filmed on location in Italy.

While Hart was doing Francis of Assisi (The 1961 holywood movie) in Rome, she met Pope John XXIII, who was instrumental in her vocation. She told him "I am Dolores Hart, the actress playing Clare." The Pontiff replied, "No, you are Clare!" ( in Italian "Tu sei Chiara!" ).
