< The Week of prayer for Christian unity in Karbi Anglong district of Assam, India

Diversity in Faith--Unity in ChristThe week of prayer for Christian unity was observed on 20th January,2011 at West Diphu Town Baptist Church. Mr.N.Rengma on behalf of the host church welcomed all. The MC of the programme was Rev.Primingson Millick.

Four elements of unity: Rev.Dr.Solomon Rongpi, gave the message based on Acts 2:42, ‘They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.’ is a call back to the origins of the first church in Jerusalem; it is a call for inspiration and renewal, a return to the essentials of the faith. Firstly, the Word was passed on by the apostles. Secondly, fellowship (koinonia) was an important mark of the early believers whenever they met together. A third mark of the early Church was the celebration of the Eucharist (the ‘breaking of the bread’), remembering the New Covenant which Jesus has enacted in his suffering, death and resurrection. The fourth aspect is the offering of constant prayer. These four elements are the pillars of the life of the church, and of its unity.

Mr. John Engty Kathar IAS speaking on the role of Christians in peace building exhorted the Christians to uphold and champion the Peace of Jesus. We affirm another world is possible! This enables us to search for a collective vision of a community of life in justice and peace.

In making our contribution to new visions of community of life in justice and peace we recognize that it is grounded in the struggles of the people. Biblical witness to the peace of Jesus provides a key toward reaching the full wisdom of God and the creative inspiration of the Spirit.As a Christian faith community, our vision is informed by our reading of the Bible. We live out peace and justice as a committed faith community;

ü with critical analysis of the current events

ü with peace pedagogy,

ü with partnerships of solidarity.

The annual financial report of UCF was presented by the treasurer Mr.E.Thomas and the annual narrative report was presented by Tom Mangattuthazhe the secretary.

Bible readings in various languages, choir singing, common prayer and refreshments by the host church was indeed moments Christian solidarity. The presence of Mr.Denis Sindano from Tanzania who is doing internship with peace internship at Diphu added joy to our youth.

The final benediction was pronounced by Rev.Dr.Solomon Rongpi from NCCI
