Religious name : Saint Maria Faustyna Kowalska of the Blessed Sacrament

Parents : Stanislaw Kowalski and Marianna Kowalska

Date of Birth : 25 August 1905 ( born 3rd of ten children)

Nationality and Place of Brith : Glogowiec, Poland

Who was she : Polish Roman Catholic nun and mystic

Know for : She had several  apparitions of Jesus Christ, this eventually inspired the  devotion to the Divine Mercy in Roman Catholic Church and earned her the title of "Secretary of Divine Mercy" and "Apostle of Divine Mercy".

In an apparition Jesus appeared wearing a white garment with his right hand lifted to bless and red and pale rays symbolizing life and forgiveness coming out of his heart. Lord asked her to paint an image according to what she saw and it should be venerated.

Based on Sr Faustina's vision, polish painter Eugeniusz Marcin Kazimirowski painted the first Divine Mercy painting in 1934. You can see this painting at the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Vilnius , a shrine dedicated to Divine mercy.

Died on : 5 October 1938, Kraków, Poland

Final resting place: Divine Mercy Sanctuary, Kraków-Łagiewniki,

Canonized By : Pope John Paul II on April 30, 2000
