rainy days and mondays - Anne Brewer

Dear Friend in Christ,
Today Is Monday and outside it’s dark, gloomy, and rainy. Karen Carpenter used to sing, “Rainy days and Mondays always get me down.” How about you? Is this how you feel? Are you feeling down and just plain yucky? Has the gray clouds of everyday living cast a dark shadow over your life? If so, have I got some good news for you.
Many times in the Bible God did some of His greatest miracles in the dark. Go back to the book of Genesis where God created the earth and the land and the sea. Notice He didn’t create the sun until the 4th day. That means this planet was created in the dark. The Israelites began their exodus out of Egypt at nighttime in the dark. Joshua was in a battle and darkness was fast approaching. He prayed and God made the sun stand still. This planet stopped spinning at a time when it was supposed to be dark. Wow! Impressed? Read on, there’s more.

Go read the story of Gideon. This “mighty man of valor” and his 300 men fought and defeated the Midianites at midnight - in the dark! Jacob wrestled with God and received his blessing in the darkness of the night. In the N.T. Paul and Silas were released from the chains of darkness as they sang praises at midnight in the dark.

When Jesus was on the cross darkness covered the earth for three hours. Jesus paid the price for our sins in the dark. And lets not forget the greatest event of all time. On the third day after Jesus died Mary went to the tomb early in the morning and found the stone rolled away. This means Jesus had to arise from the dead before morning arrived.

My friend, Jesus arose from the dead in the dark!!! Hallelujah!! My friend, I am here to encourage you. If you are going through a hard time then get ready for a miracle!! God’s greatest miracles took place during the midnight hour. So don’t give up and press on. Let Jesus be the light in your life.

Shine on,

Randall J. Brewer
