Meaning of INRI seen on Crucifix

Letters I.N.R.I is usually seen on top of crosses or Crucifix images in Catholic Christian's  churches and home.

Gospel of John 19:19-20 speaks about INRI

 John 19:19-20 New Revised Standard Version Catholic Edition (NRSVCE) says:
  Pilate also had an inscription written and put on the cross. It read, "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews."  Many of the Jews read this inscription, because the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, in Latin, and in Greek.

INRI is the abbreviated form of latin inscription "Iēsus Nazarēnus, Rēx Iūdaeōrum" which means "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews".

In some crucifix images , you can find the inscription as I.N.B.I. It is the abbreviated form of "Ἰησοῦς ὁ Ναζωραῖος ὁ Bασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίω"  ( Iesous o Nazoraios o Basileus ton Ioudaion ) which is the Greek form of "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews".

In Hebrew "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews" is written as ישוע הנוצרי ומלך היהודים
and spoken as Yeshua Hanotsri Wemelek Hayehudim

So the INRI is the abbreviation for "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews" written in:
  • Greek : Ἰησοῦς ὁ Ναζωραῖος ὁ Bασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίω ( INBI )
  • Latin : Iēsus Nazarēnus, Rēx Iūdaeōrum (INRI )
  • Hebrew : ישוע הנוצרי ומלך היהודים ( יהוה)
