Jharkhand the 28th state of Indian union is famous for its rich mineral resources, forests and wood lands. It is a state of great cultural diversity with more than 40% of its population belonging to disadvantaged group.
Jharkhand has distinction of one of the highest malnutrition. The problem of malnutrition and infant mortality is chronic in Jharkhand due to extreme poverty. Rural Jharkhand particularly in tribal area live in poverty coupled with low literacy, high mortality and morbidity. Low qualities of health services are accessible and available. 58000 children die every year without proper medical care in Jharkhand. 4 of every 10 women in Jharkhand are undernourished.
Some other significant data:-
Literacy - 54%
Female literacy - 39.4%
Child mortality - 92/1000
IMR - 72.6/1000
Immunization coverage - 31%
Percentage of safe deliveries - 19%
Low birth weight babies - 54%
The common communicable diseases are malaria, Kala-azar, leprosy, TB, ARI,
Diarrhoeal diseases, worm infestationetc
The harvest is plenty but the laborers are few. So pray to the Lord of the
harvest to sent more laborers..
Are you a doctor? Do you feel the inner urge to serve this less privileged
sheep of the Lord?
