Learning To Listen

Study to be quiet.” (1 Thessalonians 4:11)

When Paul writes, "Study to be quiet," he meant that you'll have to work at it, for it doesn't come easily.

One of the kindest things you can do for anybody is - to listen. That's right.

People will pay $150 dollars an hour to somebody who'll listen to them, and once they feel like they've been heard, they move quickly from the problem to the solution.

The trouble is, most of us are just too busy these days to listen well.

Unless the person who's talking to us has it 'crated, stacked, and ready for immediate delivery,' we've already changed gears and moved on.

And you'd be surprised how many leaders and executive-types also fall into this category. How about you?

There are three major benefits that come from really listening to others, think about them today:

(1) The more you listen, the less alone or unique you feel,... for the truth is, we're all cut from the same bolt of cloth.

(2) The more you listen, the better your assessment of any situation will be.

Solomon says, "He who answers before listening - that is his folly and his shame" (Proverbs 18:13). Ouch!

(3) The more you listen, the more you'll understand, for you're not learning while you're talking.

Again, the wise man says, "A fool finds no pleasure in understanding by delights in airing his own opinions.

Today, work on controlling your tongue, opening your mind, and developing better listening skills.

I have often regretted my speech, never my silence!!! - Learn to Listen!

Your future depends on it.

Have a LISTENing weekend!

Daily Prayers
Our Father in Heaven
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
