Living in this world without temptation is almost impossible . We should be always aware that Temptation and Sin are different . Temptation paves way to sin and sin to death . This is a simple step to step study when we see How Jesus handled it and how we can apply it in our Life .
What is temptation ?
A temptation is an act that looks appealing to an individual which allures or entices him/her to thoughts that creates negative feelings and regrets after submission to it. Temptation has been concluded to sexual sins by many ,but anything that keeps us away and depart us from the Love of God,Holiness,Purity and Supremacy of God in our life is a Temptation.It can be movies,films,money ,beauty , affections , love , lustful desires , possessions anything.
Who Can be tempted ?
No one is an exception,neither aged nor kids.Only the areas of temptation differ .Daniel was tempted but he hold on to his faith to conquer the Evil, David was tempted but he failed to the trial . Judas was tempted and that temptation paved way to a great sacrifice on the Cross by our Lord for our multitude of Sins.
Do u think we can overcome temptations ? YES , the Holy Bible assures that to Us.
1 Cor 10:13 Every temptation that has come your way is the kind that normally comes to people. But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your power to resist; at the time you are tempted he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.
When we face temptation our merciful god open the ways out,prayers,bible verses,holy bible,rosary,chaplets are all weapons to fight them . The SAD part is that we keep them in our pockets or bag many times . To Live as a Christian we Need to Practice IT !! We need to assure ourselves with the promises offered in the Holy Bible. This is not words,experience . There was a time when i thought i was tempted more than Jesus !! but through scripture he let me know how to kick it out.
Heb 4:15-16 For ours is no High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses--he himself has shared fully in all our experience of temptation, except that he never sinned. Let us therefore approach the throne of grace with fullest confidence, that we may receive mercy for our failures and grace to help in the hour of need.
Yes, Jesus was tempted . The Way he Overcame it is Worth learning . lets see How he did it.
Where in the Holy Bible does it says about Jesus temptation and how did her overcome it ? Luke 4:1-14 describes the temptation of Jesus .
4:1 "Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert.
Oh imagine the God himself being lead by the Devil . but the First few words we have to reflect " Filled with the Holy Spirit " . The first step in life to distinguish between Good and Bad ,Sin and Righteousness is to be guided by Holy Spirit. Desert - Its an indication of our lonely hours,hours of mental conflicts,moments of struggles with desires and so on.
Now the second and another powerful weapon against temptation is " FASTING " . We have almost forgotten the power of Fasting in the midst of programs,gathering and worship . If we need to keep the fire in our heart We have to practice fasting,not only for Food,but for all those things that is an addiction for Us. The best way to know the pain of Jesus is to take this small sufferings for his Love.
4:3,4 : 'If you are Son of God, tell this stone to turn into a loaf.'But Jesus replied, 'Scripture says: Human beings live not on bread alone.
The third weapon against Temptation is SCRIPTURE . Jesus was fasting for 40 days when he was tempted by devil.The Devil is so crooked he made it in the right spot.OFFER FOOD . Jesus the son of God and god himself quotes from the scripture . Scripture offers Words of Power that could set us free of any bondage's,When ever you are tempted repeat it,repeat it and devil will flee away.
| 4:6-8 :'I will give you all this power and their splendor, for it has been handed over to me, for me to give it to anyone I choose.Do homage, then, to me, and it shall all be yours.But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: You must do homage to the Lord your God, him alone you must serve.' Oh tricky Devil , he knew food and pleasure good not lead my Abba to Sin ,So he offers POWER and SPLENDOR . Pity on you DEVIL Dont you know about the richness of my Abba ? Jesus tackles him again by quoting from the SCRIPTURE. This shows a fourth weapon against temptation " HOMAGE THE LORD AND WORSHIP HIM ALONE " that is to PRAISE THE LORD . When you feel tempted keep on praising the Lord in your heart .Dont stop it,Let the Devil flee... 4:9-12 : "'If you are Son of God,' he said to him, 'throw yourself down from here,for scripture says: He has given his angels orders about you, to guard you, and again,They will carry you in their arms in case you trip over a stone,But Jesus answered him, 'Scripture says: Do not put the Lord your God to the test. Devil tried out everything ,food,pleasure,power nothing worked .So he took the same thing "SCRIPTURE " and quoted from it. Jesus replied him with Full with in his father and resisted the evil. In modern world there are many false interpretations of the Scripture,these are just followers of the same Evil. We have a role in bringing them to Knowledge and to pray for them . BUT REMEMBER FOR THIS OUR FOUNDATION SHOULD BE STRONG ON THE SCRIPTURE. The most beautiful is this verse : 13:"Having exhausted every way of putting him to the test, the devil left him, until the opportune moment" This is what the Devil should get from us,when we stay Guided by the Holy Spirit, powered by Prayer and Fating ,Full of Praises in our Heart the devil should get exhausted and should leave us. lets be armoured for the Fight against Sin and seek holiness as our Lord desires form Us. The shortest way to Jesus is a pure and obedient heart. Let God Enable all of us to stay strong in Faith and to be used for his Glory. Ave Maria |
