Think of a Seminarian for the Missions - 2011 Seminarians of mission Home Manja, in the diocese of Diphu ,Assam,India range generally range in age from their late 18s to 20s. Thanks to our Priests and religious these young people have entered the seminary as a result of an encounter with a priest who recognized a possible vocation. These young people come from communities and localities where massive ethnic conflicts have erupted in the past. The Seminary provides practical preparation for the ministry through a suitable pastoral apprenticeship. Through assignments in pastoral work appropriate to their level of formation, seminarians are given opportunities to exercise the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, to give of their time and energy in service, and to grow in their understanding of the role of the priest in service to the People of God. The Seminary is the only formation house in the diocese and is located in the countryside 25 kilometers outside of Diphu at Manja. At present there are 45 (fourty seminarians) at Mission Home Manja. Through this letter I would like to request your cooperation and support. You can help us in the formation of future priests by generously contributing/ sponsoring for their studies. That's something you can do for God and His people. How much can I contribute? The average expense of a seminarian per month is Rs.3000. You can either sponsor the full formation or part of it and you may do it by giving the amount in installments every month or every or even for one year. How is a student selected for adoption? We have 45 students currently enrolled. Individual donors who wish to adopt a seminarian can indicate various preferences. May I contact my student through the Adopt A Seminarian program? Yes. You are encouraged to write to your student at any time. Students often comment that the prayers, cards and letters supporting them in their studies help them as much as the financial helps. I am not able to fully fund tuition for a student. Can we still participate? Yes. You can choose to adopt a student by providing half tuition rather than full. If the gift you can provide is smaller than that amount, your scholarship gift will go into the seminary's general scholarship fund. We already adopted one seminarian, but would like to do more. How can we help? There is no limit to the number of students you can adopt. What if my student leaves seminary prior to graduation? This is rare, but if the student you have adopted has to leave seminary, you will immediately be assigned a new student following the same criteria. Why do seminarians need financial assistance? Seminarians often come to Seminary with great sacrifice. By responding to God's call they often uproot families, leave careers, and bring along accrued debt from undergraduate study. Your support can help ease the financial burden and ensure no student has to leave seminary or postpone enrollment for financial reasons. What if my student leaves seminary prior to graduation? This is rare, but if the student you have adopted has to leave seminary, you will immediately be assigned a new student following the same criteria.
