Some Lenten practices

Some Lenten practices to consider.

  • Prayer Calendar. pray for each day of Lent. It is a beautiful way to get you in a habit of prayer, and connect you with people you care about. You can even invite your friends and family to pick a day.
  • Lenten Letters. Write a different thank you note to a different person every day of Lent. It is amazing what God can do with our lives when we slow down, and meditate on all the blessings, especially the people, in our lives that we are grateful for. Spend Sundays praying for and thanking God for the people you wrote letters/notes to during the week.
  • Get To Mass. As simple as making an effort to get to Daily Mass as often as possible. I can say nothing more than the fact that this practice is life changing. I can certify this as a priest.
  • Get more out of mass. Dedicate this Lent to learning more about the Mass. There are plenty of internet resources.
  • Spiritual Reading. Read something that will get you closer to God this Lent.
  • Almsgiving, put your sacrifices for the needy, the church the missions (Or every time you break your fast, make a double-donation). At the end of Lent, donate the money to a good cause.

Well these are  few options, but that doesn't mean you have to pick one of those. Find something that is important to you and that you really can see assisting you in your journey to God. Pray about it. Seek spiritual direction. Find people to keep you accountable. Be joyful doing it. Have a great Lent.

Daily Prayers
The Apostle's Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried, He descended into hell; the third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty, from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
